Adrienne Brown

Ballet, Tap, Jazz

No one can teach our Babies like Miss A! Adrienne is a graduate of Hunter College where she earned a dual degree in Elementary Education and Modern Dance. She has years of experience as a teacher of academics and a school administrator. As a dancer, she was a student at the Gloria Jackson Dance Studio. She then opened her own dance studio and ran Dance Explosion for 9 years before joining the talented staff of The Bernice Johnson Cultural Arts Center. She was the first member of ESOTA's staff and we are lucky to have her as our Senior Instructor. 

Roger C. Jeffrey

Modern

Roger C. Jeffrey was born in New York City where he began his training at Bernice Johnson Cultural Arts Center. A graduate of Performing Arts High School, he received his B.F.A. from The Juilliard School under the direction of Benjamin Harkarvy. Mr. Jeffrey has performed in the companies of Bernice Johnson, Kevin Iega Jeff, Twyla Tharp, Zvi Gotheiner, Martial Roumain, and with Mikhail Baryshnikov's White Oak Dance Project. He has also worked with Gary Deloatch, Dudley Williams, Eleo Pomare, Benjamin Harkarvy, Otis Salid, Debbie Allen, Rasta Thomas, D'bi. Young, Doug Varone, Richard Move, Mark Dendy and Obediah Wright. Inspired by his mentor Kevin Iega Jeff, he began to explore his full artistic potential as both an instructor and choreographer at the Bernice Johnson Cultural Arts Center, Edge School of the Arts, Onyx Dance Company, Elisa King and Dancers, Ulster Ballet Company, Philadanco!, CityDance Ensemble, The Juilliard School, Lincoln Center Institute, Goucher College,Marygrove College, City College of New York, Purchase College Conservatory of Dance, Philadelphia University of the Arts, University of Santa Barbara, Long Island University (C.W. Post), the Joffrey School (Texas), New York Hip-Hop Festival, Theatre Passe Muraille (Canada), La Companya (Spain), Tanz Project(Germany), Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, American Ballet Theatre/Make a Ballet Program, Dancespace Center and Peridance Center. Mr. Jeffrey is currently working with The Metropolitan Opera Ballet Company and Lar Lubovitch Dance Company. 

Alexander MacDonald

Tap

Alex is a professional tap dancer, teaching artist, singer-songwriter, and researcher. He has traveled throughout North America and Europe as the original tap soloist and tap choreographer for the wildly popular vintage jazz band Scott Bradlee & Postmodern Jukebox. Since 2009, he has entertained audiences as dance captain for Andrew J. Nemr’s tap company Cats Paying Dues. Performance highlights with the troupe include NYC’s Symphony Space, Webster Hall, The Riverside Theatre, Laguardia Performing Arts Center, 92nd Street Y, and Town Hall; as well as live on national television for the 45th annual Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon.


An accomplished singer-songwriter and guitarist, he has played in various NYC venues, including Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2. In 2011, he released his debut music album, "Footprints," a warm and riveting acoustic journey, infusing intricate folk instrumentation, tight harmonies, poignant, honest lyrics, and the percussive drive of tap dance. A sophomore album, titled "Seasons and Shadows" is due out in 2015.


A teaching artist for the Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation, he is privileged to share his love of tap with children in under-served communities throughout the NYC public school system. He has also taught technique classes to undergraduate and postgraduate dance students at the University of Limerick's Irish World Academy of Music and Dance. An experienced soloist and frequent collaborator, he has performed internationally in concerts and conferences in Ireland, Germany, England, Scotland, Belgium, France, and Norway. In 2012, he was awarded a prestigious Fulbright Student Scholarship to Ireland in order to conduct research on the Irish traditional dance roots of American tap dance. Alex holds a M.A. in Ethnochoreology from the University of Limerick, where he graduated with First Class Honors in 2013, as well as a B.A. in Musical Theatre with a minor in Dance from SUNY Geneseo, where he graduated summa cum laude in 2008.

Jackie Thompson

Jazz, Tap, Beginner Ballet

Jackie studied dance at Adele’s Creative Dance School, Virginia Commonwealth University, Alvin Ailey’s, and Broadway Dance Center.  She has choreographed for dance competitions and has worked for numerous after-school dance programs in New York City. She has produced numerous middle school productions where her role has been director, stage manager costume mistress and choreographer. She is involved with the West Indian Day Parade where she makes costumes and choreographs a routine for one of the carnival bands. She had taught at Adele’s, Jonette School of Dance, TKO, and Dance Expressions. Jackie has been with ESOTA for 15 years, and in her spare time, she teaches for the NYC Board of Education. 

Brittany Wilson

Tap, African, Beginner Ballet

Brittany began dancing at ESOTA at the age of 10.She is now an ESOTA and KECDE alumni. She has trained at the Edge School of the Arts, Benjamin N. Cardozo High School and Lehman College. She is currently a senior at Lehman, double majoring in exercise science and dance. She has performed with KECDE internationally and has made appearances on BET’s 106& Park and MTV’s Chris Brown Super Sweet 16. She has performed in numerous concerts at Lehman and has created concepts and concerts of her own to raise awareness and funds for the program. She looks forward to another successful year working at ESOTA.
